LOCAL OFFER

Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Local Offer:

As of September 1st 2014 the Government has launched a new Code of Practice (CoP) for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) which aims to reform and improve current practices and provision within educational settings for young people. In order to adhere to the new Code of Practice we are currently reviewing our current SEND Policy, procedures and provision in order to provide the best possible education for all children in our school requiring additional support.

The new SEND reforms aim:

  • to get education, health and social care services working together

  • to make sure children, young people and families know what help they can get when a child or young person has special educational needs

  • to make sure that different organisations work together to help children and young people with special educational needs

  • to give children and young people and their parents more say about the help they get

  • for one overall assessment process to look at what special help a child or young person needs with their education, and their health and social care needs, all at the same time

  • for a child or young person to have one plan for meeting their education, health and social care needs, which can run from birth to 25 if it needs to

  • to make sure children, young people and their parents can choose some of the help they need

  • to help sort things out if a child or young person or their parent needs to appeal about the help they get

More information is also available on the Local Authority website which includes a new ‘Local Offer’. This Local Offer outlines information about SEND and services available for those with additional needs, between the ages of 0 -25, for Parents, Carers and Young People. WHO CAN I TALK TO?

If you have any concerns about your child’s learning or well-being please come in to school.  In the first instance, it would be beneficial to have a discussion with the class teacher.  They will be able to discuss how we can work alongside you as we all seek to support your child in our school.
After speaking with the class teacher, if you still have concerns please contact Mr Young (SENCo) at andrew.young@emcps.co.uk  or telephone 0191 2747463.

Further Support:
SENDIASS has replaced Parent Partnership Services and can be contacted on 0191 284 0480 or by email at sendiassadmin@newcastle.gov.uk  ask for Judith Lane or Sarah Francis.
