RECEPTION

WELCOME TO RECEPTION

Welcome to English Martyrs Catholic Primary School. We are so pleased that you are choosing to start your school journey with us.

This video will help you get some idea of our Reception provision and what to expect when you child begins school.

RECEPTION INFORMATION:

In Reception Class we will continue to work through the Early Years Framework, which guides us in supporting your child to reach the Early Learning Goals.

Learning to read and write is a huge part of the Reception Year. Developing your child's phonic knowledge plays a crucial role in this. (Don't worry we will explain nearer the time exactly how to support your child's reading development!)

At English Martyrs' we understand that all children are unique and learn in different ways. We therefore aim to provide a variety of learning experiences through child and adult led play and eventually more formal lesson times.

Our indoor and outdoor areas provide children with opportunities to explore, learn and engage with other children, as well as the world around them.

HOW CAN I HELP AT HOME?

For some children, starting Reception Class may be the first time they have been away from their parents or carers for a full school day. The more independent your children are, the easier this new part of their school journey will be. BBC Bitesize have put together lots of support from  developing fine motor skills, help with toilet training, to establishing bedtime routines.  There's even some online games to play. Why not have look in the links below.

In Reception class we love to share stories. We usually try to base our weekly learning and exploration around a story. Sharing your own stories at home is an excellent way of developing your child's imagination, love of reading and ability to listen and maintain attention. Some online stories all about starting school.

We've added some links below to help support your child's independence and readiness to start school.
