Y5 German Trip - Sign up and deposit

Thank you to all those who were able to attend the short meeting on Thursday afternoon. I hope you found it useful.

I have had many requests to send out the information so I have included a PDF of the slides within this page.

This will be sent to all Year 5 pupils as I am aware there were some parents who have expressed an interest after the initial deadline.

As mentioned at the meeting, I am restricted by some tight deadlines in order to meet funding agreements. I also need to know final names and numbers as soon as possible to be able to book flights and secure prices.

I understand one of the main factors in this decision will be costs. As I explained at the meeting, my aim is to keep costs to a maximum of £400 per pupil (based on predicted pupil numbers). This trip has already been subsidised considerably through Turing funding and we hope to raise additional funds to further reduce costs.

From Monday, 30 September all Year 5 pupils will have a £50 deposit assigned to their child's iPayimpact account (please note the account will be named 'Y5 German Trip') which is separate to the account for lunch payments.

If you would like your child to take part in this trip, a non-refundable deposit of £50 must be paid via the online iPayimpact account no later than 1pm on Friday 4th October 2024.

Please wait for a link which will be sent by the school office before you make any payment.

The £50 charge will be removed after this time for those who have not paid, and we will assume that you do not wish for your child to take part in the trip.

We can then work with parents/carers to set up a payment plan moving forwards for the remaining balance to be paid.

There were also some important questions asked at the meeting which I will summarise below:

Q. Will children's valuables be insured (e.g. electronics)?

A. We are covered for personal items through our DfE travel insurance (insurance cove will be shared with parents at a future meeting). We will also advise on what items pupils will be able to take with them.

Q. Will children be able to call home?

A. We will work with parents to decide the best options for contact home but we may arrange a mid week video call. Parents will have a direct number for staff in Germany and school would facilitate a call home if needed.

Q. Will accommodation be for sole use of our group?

A. Accommodation has not been finalised as we want to see the accommodation in person. Mr Kennedy will visit later this year to view accommodation options. Ideally we would look to have sole use of the accommodation. Security will be our priority when looking at accommodation options.

Q. Will there be support for nervous/first time fliers?

A. Both potential airlines have offered to support our group with staff. We will also do some work with pupils before hand to best support and prepare them.

Q. How many English Martyrs' staff will be going?

A. Based on predicted numbers, there will be a minimum of 6 staff accompanying the pupils.
