The Development Matters Statements give an idea of what a typical/average child may be able to do at different stages in their learning and development. In Nursery we will use these statements to help us to plan tasks, games, activities and experiences for your child.

Click on the link below to find out more.

At English Martyrs' we understand that all children are unique and learn in different ways. We therefore aim to provide a variety of learning experiences through child and adult led play.

Our indoor and outdoor areas provide children with opportunities to explore, learn and engage with other children, as well as the world around them.

MISS GILL

I am a Senior Educational Practitioner working in the Nursery. I have been working at English Martyrs’ School for fourteen years and love working in Nursery. I can’t wait to meet all the new children in September.

HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD

For some children, starting Nursery may be the first time they have been away from their parents or carers. The more independent your children are, the easier this new part of their development will be. We've added some links below to help support your child's independence and readiness to start Nursery.

Have a look at this simple video on the right, introducing the concept of counting. There are lots more helpful ideas when you click on the Oxford Owls Link Below too

There is a PDF version of a story for you to share with your child, take time to discuss the pictures and story together to help prepare your child for these important next steps. Perhaps you could talk about any worries they may have and try to focus on the things they are excited about and looking forward to trying!

TOILET TRAINING

At Nursery we are happy to work together to support your children in this important stage of their development. Even children who are fully toilet trained will have occasional accidents when they are in a new environment or simply busy having so much fun!

Please make sure we have some spare clothes in school so we can keep your children clean and comfortable. If your child still needs to wear a nappy, a pull-up can be much more helpful so that they can begin to gain some independence when they are ready- please remember to send spare pull-ups and wipes for us to use.

If you are worried about toilet training or need some further support and advice please click on the links below.

Thank you!
